Cutting Boards
Cutting boards are the gold-standard wooden kitchen item. Slicing and dicing fruits and veggies? Grab a wooden cutting board. Need one for cutting and carving meats? It can handle that. Want a charcuterie board to display meats, cheeses and other hors d’oeuvres? Our boards are beautiful enough to do that, too.

Locally sourced and responsibly harvested domestic hardwoods that came from trees in and around the Ames and Des Moines area are at the heart of the Heartland Maker’s bowls. He takes great pride in giving trees that had to come down new life.

The Heartland Maker specializes in three types of cutting boards: End grain cutting boards, traditional cutting boards and charcuterie boards.
End grain cutting boards are the go-to boards for heavy-duty use as the end-grain of the wood absorbs the knife better, thus prolonging both the board and the sharpness of the knife.
Traditional boards are the do-it-all boards that combine beauty and function. I make traditional boards both with and without handles to fit whatever need you may have.
Charcuterie boards often have more beauty and design elements as they are used for displays and not for traditional and chopping use
